the crab claw sail
an invention of the pacific islanders is great for going from close reaching to downwind -
but those are no points you will have problems with anyway -
you can always put up some reacher - spi - but you don't have to -
an the other hand - being able to go to wind ward - may be a matter of life & dead -
and there the cc is not ideal -
but the western rig is ideally suited for a two way boat like the proa -
having the groove to lee - having smooth air flow on the lee side of the sail -
having the natural ability to shift the ce aft for fast turning on changing directions -
and most of all - having only one fixed mast for safety & simplicity......
